Accessibility statement
Stick House Sanctuary is committed to making stickhousesanctuary.org usable by everyone in our community — including people with disabilities.
Our commitment
Stick House Sanctuary strives to make stickhousesanctuary.org usable by everyone, including people with disabilities. Access to clear information about wildlife rehabilitation — how to help an injured animal, how to support our work, and how we are accountable as a nonprofit — should not depend on how someone reads, hears, or navigates the web.
Standards we aim for
We work toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as our benchmark. WCAG 2.1 is an internationally recognized standard published by the W3C, and Level AA is the target most organizations adopt for public-facing websites. We treat accessibility as an ongoing effort rather than a one-time checklist.
Measures we take
To move toward that goal, the site is built with the following practices:
- Semantic HTML — proper headings, landmarks, and labels so assistive technology can understand the structure of each page.
- Keyboard-navigable menus — every link, button, and control can be reached and operated without a mouse.
- Visible focus styles — a clear focus indicator appears on the element you are currently on.
- Sufficient color contrast — text and interactive elements are designed to meet AA contrast ratios against their backgrounds.
-
Reduced-motion support — we honor the
prefers-reduced-motionsetting and disable non-essential animation when it is turned on. - Descriptive alt text and labels — meaningful images carry alt text and forms carry explicit labels.
- Skip-to-content links — a keyboard user can bypass repeated navigation and jump straight to the page content.
Compatibility
This site is designed to be best experienced in current versions of major browsers. We have not formally tested it with every browser and assistive-technology combination. If a specific browser or assistive technology gives you trouble, please tell us using the contact details below.
Known limitations
Despite our efforts, there may be parts of the site that are not yet fully accessible:
- We are a small volunteer-run organization and may not have found every issue. If you encounter one, please report it so we can address it.
- Some third-party content linked from or embedded in our site — such as social media posts or news coverage — may be outside our control and may not meet the same standards.
Feedback & reporting barriers
If you encounter a barrier — a page that will not work with your assistive technology, a control you cannot operate, or content you cannot read — please tell us. Include the page address (URL) and a short description of what happened.
